ADP Vanities for Small Bathrooms: Plan Depth, Storage and Basin Space

Planning an ADP vanity for a small bathroom? Compare cabinet depth, basin projection, drawer access and tap placement before choosing your size.

ADP Thea wall-hung vanity with Florentine Walnut cabinetry and a round mirror

In a compact bathroom, the best vanity is not always the narrowest one. Depth, basin projection and drawer movement can affect the room just as much as width. Start with a measured plan, then use the exact ADP drawing to compare a few workable options.

Measure the space people need to use

Record the finished room dimensions, including the door, shower screen and toilet. Draw the space needed to open the vanity doors or drawers. Then look at the route from the doorway to each fixture. A cabinet can fit against the wall and still feel awkward when someone is standing at the basin.

Measure at more than one point if the vanity will sit between walls. Include skirtings, tiles, window trims and any benchtop overhang. For a replacement, photograph the current water and waste connections and mark their positions. These details help your installer judge whether an apparently simple swap will need plumbing changes.

Compare cabinet depth and basin projection separately

A compact cabinet does not necessarily mean the basin ends at the same front edge. Some basin configurations project beyond the cabinet. Compare the complete installed dimensions rather than the cabinet alone, especially with semi-recessed designs.

Measure What it tells you
Finished width Whether the top and cabinet fit the available opening
Cabinet depth Storage space and cabinet projection
Basin projection The actual front edge of the washing area
Door or drawer movement Whether the storage can be opened fully
Combined height The height of the cabinet, top and basin together

Choose useful storage instead of the biggest cabinet

List the things you want to keep at the vanity: daily toiletries, spare towels, cleaning products or hair tools. Compare shelf and drawer layouts against that list. Plumbing occupies space inside the cabinet, so check the product drawing and do not assume the full external volume is usable storage.

A wall-hung design leaves visible floor beneath the cabinet; a floor-mounted design creates a different relationship with the floor. Neither is automatically the answer for every small room. Wall support, pipework and the actual internal layout should guide the choice alongside the appearance.

Coordinate the basin and tap before ordering

An above-counter basin adds to the finished washing height. A moulded top with an integrated bowl has a different arrangement. Check tap holes, outlet reach and the space behind the basin before deciding on a tall or wall-mounted mixer. Do not drill a top based only on the nominal vanity width.

Start in ADP vanities and compare the available compact models. Our ADP vanity buying guide explains the broader top and basin choices. The Thea bathroom pictured here illustrates the styling; confirm the dimensions and options of the model you shortlist.
